Exhibitions & Press
With sponsorship from Arts Council England, Metro Imaging, Action Underwater Studios, amongst other prominent business and organisations The Fear of Falling was first exhibited in September 2008 at Shunt Vaults, a stunning venue empathetic with the subject matter of the work. Together with a sound installation specifically designed for the show, the portraits formed a ponderous and enchanting journey through the dark, cavernous space, offering time to stop and reflect. Renowned for cutting edge performance, the exhibition is the first of it’s kind for the Vaults and, as part of the Thames Festival, the artists held a talk for festival visitors and the general public.
Nominated for the 2008 Terry O'Neill Award, portraits from the series were exhibited at the Fulham Palace Gallery, London, Nov 2008 to Feb 2009, with a following exhibition at The Independent Photographers Gallery in March 2009.
Several from the series also formed part of a group show, Contemporary Portraits, at the new building for The Photographer's Gallery, London, from December 2008 to February 2009. The work was also nominated for the Paul Huf Award in 2009.
The portraits have received substantial press recognition since their first exhibition, with coverage in The Guardian Eye Witness, covers for The Sunday Times Spectrum Magazine and Image Magazine and the BBC News website. PDFs will soon be available to download.
