How Does it Work?

Waterbody incorporates a variety of different techniques and approaches to help enhance our relationship with the water. These are drawn from land-based disciplines such as the Alexander Technique, Tai Chi, yoga, dance and Body Mind Centring. Waterbody shares with each of these disciplines the fundamental philosophy of rooting and grounding and borrows different elements from each to teach you how to do so in water. This is an unusual approach, often overlooked traditionally in relation to being immersed, but essential if you wish to understand how to work harmoniously within it.

Within sessions, focus is made initially on learning about breath awareness, alignment, buoyancy and how to ground, to help form a strong solid foundation. This enables one to feel fully confident as the work develops. Sessions then progress in response to individual requirements, with a strong emphasis placed upon using the support of the water throughout, whether one wishes to improve swimming technique, increase confidence or simply relax and unwind.

Important aspects encouraged during sessions are both play and self-exploration; with the underlying belief that the water is able to teach and inform you how to be at one with it, and the role of the teacher is that of facilitator.
